The Justice Hema Committee report has sparked controversy in the Malayalam film industry, leading to calls for similar committees to tackle sexual harassment in Indian film industries. In the Kannada industry, members of the Film Industry For Rights and Equality (FIRE) recently met with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to discuss creating a safe working environment for female artistes. Subsequently, the film chamber organized a meeting with female artistes to address issues of sexual harassment and abuse prevalent in the industry on September 16. Prominent members of the film fraternity shared their views on the matter:
- NM Suresh, President of the Karnataka Film Chamber, stated that the Karnataka State Commission for Women has urged a meeting to discuss women's safety in the industry, and they will be organizing a meeting with all female artistes to address this.
- Former President of the Producers' Association and Film Chamber, Sa Ra Govindu, expressed confusion over the resurgence of the #MeToo issue in the Kannada industry, emphasizing that the film chamber is capable of managing industry matters and that any grievances should be directed to them.
- Producer and former President of the film chamber, Ba Ma Harish, highlighted the importance of mutual consent in interactions between men and women in the industry, stating that interference is unwarranted in consensual situations but acknowledging the need for legal action in cases of coercion.
